Dead Woody Material
Pehuén Forest Residency / Mar Adentro Foundation 2021
The investigation was based on a field work based on the observation and collection of dead woody materials, from the sclerophyllous forest. Notofagus species were collected from Raulí, Coihue, Roble, and Quila. These fallen tree branches were directly cast in ceramic, in order to capture their inclination, thickness, and shape of the material. The ceramic piece (by mistake) was burned at a higher temperature in the oven and underwent some modifications, but it was still possible to mount it under a large oak tree that is next to the house. The concave ceramic branch was hung from a living branch, which will shelter the installation. A camera trap was also placed near the piece, in order to visualize its behavior with the weather, rain and snow.
At the same time, the waters of the Pehuén forest were filmed with a waterproof camera, finding a forest submerged in a small blue lagoon, maintained in water, as if it was a ravine. This lagoon lights up at noon turning everything a turquoise blue. The camera filmed a frozen space in the middle of clean water, a second atmosphere after the terrestrial one, delivered by an aqueous environment.
At the same time, sound was recorded with a hydrophone, as sound support for video montage.
