Claudia Müller Montes

Claudia Müller is a Chilean visual artist who currently lives and works between Santiago de Chile and Berlin. She holds the position of full professor at the School of Arts of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and also serves as a full professor of Cinematics in the Department of Photography at the School of Visual Arts of the Finis Terrae University. Claudia holds an MFA from the University of Chile (2011) and a BA from the Finis Terrae University (2006).

Her artistic work emerges from the daily observation of natural elements such as water and air in their relationship with universal phenomena like gravity and time, exploring a wide range of scales and making them visible through photography, video, and installation of materials.

Claudia's artwork has been exhibited internationally in various cities, including Bogotá (Chile), Berlin (Germany), Paris (France), Bilbao (Spain), Barcelona (Spain), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santa Cruz (Bolivia), Stavanger (Norway), and numerous cities within Chile. She has participated in several art residences, including those at Fundación BilbaoArte, Bosque Pehuén Research Residence by Fundación Mar Adentro, and CAB (Casa Museo Alberto Baeriswyl) Art, Science, and Humanities Residence in Tierra del Fuego, KIOSKO, Bolivia.

She has received numerous awards and grants, such as the FONDART (Chile) and DIRAC (Chile) competitions. Notable among her awards are the first place in the 2021 Ministry of Public Works contest, receiving an allocation for the construction of the "Observatorio," a public art project for Boulevard Poniente at Santiago Airport, Chile. She has also received the CCU Scholarship, the Fundación BilbaoArte Scholarship, and the Creation Award for Finis Terrae University teachers on three occasions. Additionally, Claudia is the founder of the platform Xirius.cl, where she promotes the dissemination of art and science projects since the year 2020.

Public Space Work:

2021: ASTRO: Free creation work directly commissioned and funded by the Nemesio Antúnez Foundation for Mapuhue Park, La Pintana. The work proposed and executed comprised the design and construction of a solar observatory combined with an interactive water feature.

Awards and accolades:

In 2009-2010 she received the Fondart grant, which enabled her to earn her Master’s Degree in Visual Arts.

In 2013 she was again awarded a Fondart grant to carry out her project: SEMIDIURNO in the Die Ecke Contemporary Art Gallery. In 2015 she received a grant from the BilbaoArte Foundation to engage in a six-month residency in Bilbao, Spain, with her Project “Catastros de Agua”. This project is also funded by Ventanilla Abierta, Fondart.

In 2016 she received an award from the BilbaoArte Foundation to hold an individual exhibition entitled. “Nadie puede empujar el Río” (No one can push the River). In the year 2019, she received the residence award for the Call for Residency of Art, Science and Humanities CAB in Tierra del Fuego, Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region, Chile. Project funded by the National Council for culture and the arts. In the same year 2019, she received a Dirac Fund from the Chilean government to produce her “Hydrography of the Body” project at the Chilean Embassy in Argentina, in addition to the third prize of the CCU art Scholarship.

In 2020 she was selected for participation in Ars Electronica Festival, on the same year she received from Mar Adentro Foundation for an Artist Residence “Bosque Pehuén” and in 2021 she received by the National Ministery for culture and the arts, a found for Kiosko gallery Residence, Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

In 2022 she received the first place AMB International Airport of Santiago, Sector Boulevar Poniente. Prize awarded to build a public sculpture and financed by the Ministry of Public Works and the international airport. She also received a grant from the Chilean Ministry of Culture to develop the Agua Dulce Project in Bogotá, Colombia. In 2023 she received a grant from the Chilean government’s National Fund for Culture and the Arts to carry out her project Bodies of Water in Licenza, Italy.

This year 2024 receives the first place from the ministry of public works of chile to develop a public art project in the pampa del tamarugal, entitled SOL.
